A Jubilee of Thanksgiving-The Icon
Redemptorists invite Liguorian readers to join them in the preparations leading to June 27, 2016—the 150th anniversary of the celebration of our order’s charge to restore public veneration to the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Please help us continue the worldwide celebration that began April 26 by praying this prayer daily asking the Mother of God to bless all of us on her jubilee:
The Church has been blessed with a wonderful grace in the presence of this beloved icon. Our Mother of Perpetual Help has been a source of strength and healings—a constant sign of the redemptive love of Jesus Christ!
Our Mother of Perpetual Help is the most popular image of Mary associated with the Catholic Church. Banners, votive candles, holy cards, and medals all bear this imprint of the icon.
Although in many cultures, images depict the Mother of God in various clothing and colors that reflect a particular tradition, all bear essential elements central to the icon—the shape, the presence of angels with instruments of the passion, the Child looking up to the angel with the cross, and the sandal falling off the foot of Jesus.
Redemptorists throughout the world continue to be faithful to the mission given to them—to make her known. Join us in spreading devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.
