Celebrating the Fifty Days of Easter
Lent appears to never end. But Easter seems gone in a snap. Some years I blink and wonder if I missed it. But in actuality, while the plastic bunnies and egg-laden trees disappear by Monday afternoon, to Christians, Easter is a fifty-day season!
Think about it. On Good Friday we stand at the foot of the cross and contemplate the horror and magnitude. On Sunday morning we witness the miracle of the empty tomb. Christ is risen! Let’s celebrate!
Celebrate the Octave of Easter
The eight days after Easter is called the Octave of Easter. Church tradition says an octave is one long day. Keep feasting! Smile and say “Happy Easter” for the entire week! Make this time special. Have an egg hunt, or bake cookies—everything you didn’t have time to do before that hectic Easter.
