I enjoy your magazine, especially the Bible Quiz, every month. This February issue had several things I want to comment on: First, the ashes pictures made me laugh. “Awash in the Joy of Conversion” was great in renewing my commitment to go to confession. And I can’t wait to read and meditate on the daily Lenten insights. However, and you know there is always a however, in the book excerpt from “Symbols that Surround Us,” by Johan Van Parys on page 21… Six weeks of six days is thirty-six, plus Ash Wednesday and the following Thursday, Friday, and Saturday add up to forty days of Lent. Why, then, is the claim made that Lent ends on Holy Thursday? I think the Triduum can be noted, but it should be included in the forty days.
In reference to the “Dear Padre” by Fr. John Schmidt, CSsR, on page 24, I am totally against dogs or any other animals in church. As someone said, “The trouble with the world today is that many people humanize animals and animalize people.” Service dogs are a different matter; however, I think people often exploit this use as well. There is no way to determine if an animal is truly a service animal or not. I am not an animal hater, but animals should not take the place of people in the lives of others.

We are longtime subscribers to Liguorian and look forward to its arrival every month. The articles are insightful and help us to deepen our Catholic faith. We have noticed, however, that the crossword puzzle is missing from the 2018 issues.
My wife and I enjoy a friendly competition to see who gets the most words to solve the puzzle. At times we go to outside resources like the Bible and dictionary to solve the clues. This allows us to expand our Catholic knowledge. We hope it is coming back soon.
