Fr. Lewandowski’s wonderful article “Beyond Gun Control” (July-August 2013) offers a clear answer to all the world’s problems. Wow! If people could follow these simple instructions and control themselves, the world would be a safer and happier place.
I’ve never read anything more inspirational—not a book but just a one-page solution to all our problems. Control could offer better health by helping to reduce obesity. There would be less problems from drugs, smoking, and drinking—less divorce and loss of homes. Celebrities and athletes are killing themselves and others because of drugs and greed. People get what they’ve always wanted but still want more. This has to be the world’s best-kept secret—God and self-control—what a concept!
God bless you and thank you.—R. Strobel, CA
Editor’s note: We would like to share an inspiring poem sent in by a reader.
The Boy
And thusly I fell from grace
Heedless of any and all
With the whisper of a cat’s pace
I fell victim to sin’s call
Slowly I lost my faith
Until suddenly I seemed alone
A horror like a wraith
The many faults I condoned
It seemed simple to want more
To have treasures beyond the rest
My desires left me rotted to the core
I was bitter when I became best
One Sunday I chanced upon a church
Its steeple a blazing beacon
In my breast my heart began to lurch
I had found what I was seeking
Inside I saw a sea of people
Side by side they were content
They sedately sat beneath that steeple
Each equal as is God’s intent
In the back, I found a pew
Startled at my own dismay
On God’s altar I was made anew
When I humbled myself to pray
Follow not my footprints I ask
In such you will find no joy
I tell all to complete this task
Find the sweet little Jesus boy
