Perpetual Novenas Honor Mary
The Icon
The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the veneration and restoration of the Icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help began this spring, and you can be a part of it.
This year is a year of preparation for the 2016 event. Redemptorists will reflect on the special gift this icon is to the whole Church and the special call we received in 1866 to make her known throughout the world.
The devotion to this icon of Mary is expressed in the perpetual-novena tradition that developed in the United States and has spread throughout the world.

Mary challenges us to be open to doing whatever God wants. We can ask God to come to our aid, but not the way we expect we would like, but the way his love tells us. Not my way but your way Lord, for you are “the Way and the Truth and the Life.”
Thus we need to continually surrender to God in the way that people who trust each other surrender to one another: the disposition, which St. Paul encourages in married couples. “Be submissive to one another” out of love, he says.
